I focus on your unique needs and goals, and begin our work together based on your present difficulties. I expect therapy to have a profound and permanent impact on your life so that you can develop new, more positive ways of being.
I believe it is important to focus on developing a meaningful and collaborative relationship with you, while working on your strengths and self-esteem, which can be very helpful in a time of suffering. Guidance and emotional support are a critical part of the process to enhance your strengths, navigate your choices, and empower you.
Individual Adults and Couples
When working with individual adults and couples, my orientation is relational. I use a collaborative approach with you, which facilitates a deeper exploration of healthier relationship styles, and associated thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as they emerge in the context of therapy. I work closely with you to develop coping skills, grieve the losses, heal the trauma, and resolve conflicts in adaptive ways.
Children, Adolescents and Families
When working with children, adolescents, and families, I use a family systems approach, as I understand the expressed difficulties as being part of a complex system. I pay close attention to developmental processes and appropriate parent guidance. I also have extensive training in play therapy, which allows younger children to cope, adapt, and heal within a more natural approach.
Working with Teachers and Schools
I have served as a consultant to various schools and have extensive experience with school systems. I conduct psychological and psycho-educational assessments for an array of presenting difficulties, and I consult closely with teachers and psychiatrists to provide the most appropriate and effective recommendations for the child and family.
